AJ Belke
AJ Belke (Andrea Jessica Belke) is the artist behind ARC11 STUDIO, based on her acreage in Alberta, Canada. Her practice begins with painting and photography and opens toward sculpture, mixed media, printmaking and textiles.
Nature is where AJ seeks and finds peace. The forest and landscape around her studio give her room to breathe and awaken her senses: colour and light, sound, texture and scent. This full-body experience of being present in nature inspires her art.
Her developing work explores connections between these sensory experiences and personal journeys through pain, growth, freedom and joy. Her late father, an artist, master wood craftsman, poet and thinker who loved willow and stone, remains an important influence.
At ARC11 STUDIO, these interests are taking shape through the exhibition concept Sticks and Stones, the planned series Journeys, and a project responding to her father’s poetry.
