Inside the studio
ARC11 STUDIO is the studio of AJ Belke, on her acreage in Alberta, Canada. It is a place for exploring materials and the connections between art, nature and lived experience.
ROOM TO BREATHE
Nature is where I seek and find peace. It gives me room to breathe. In the forest and across the landscape surrounding my studio, I feel fully awake to colour, light, sound, texture and scent. These full-body sensory experiences inspire my art.
STICKS AND STONES
An exhibition in development
Sticks and Stones explores movement from pain toward freedom, expansion and joy. Painting and experiments with physical materials trace these journeys, with sticks and stones appearing as both materials and subjects.
The project is informed by the memory of AJ’s father, an artist, master wood craftsman, poet and thinker who loved working with willow and stone. His journey inspires her to explore her own.
JOURNEYS
A planned series within the developing exhibition, exploring pain, growth, joy and rapture through painting.
IN CONVERSATION WITH POETRY
AJ is developing the idea of publishing her father’s poetry and creating artworks in response to it. Painting, sculpture, mixed media, printmaking and textiles offer possibilities for exploring the relationship between words and materials.
These projects are in development. Completed works will be presented in GALLERY, with their year and series identified. Pieces offered for sale will appear in AVAILABLE WORK.
